Why a Degree is Important

Institutions of higher learning play a significant role in codifying professions and furthering research. Penn believes that the profession of learning leader has come of age.

Two work-related learning trends have emerged:

  • The emergence of corporate universities and the effort to coordinate and leverage learning as a strategic, organizational effort is increasing.
  • The idea of a dean of a corporate university or a chief learning officer (CLO) — and all that it connotes, such as access to the executive committee and board — has resonated within many organizations.

To further the legitimacy of the profession, under the leadership of the Graduate School of Education (GSE), Penn has developed this collaborative program, pulling faculty from across the university.
